Hi Erin,I’m not a fan of rules, and there are plenty of writers who break them to great effect, ie: Proust, Fitzgerald, Henry James. The bottom line is to write something interesting. If the backstory goes on “too long” it’s helpful to ask why we’re making it backstory. Perhaps it might be better served happening in the &#sr20;p2e8ent.”
